Director of Digital Services
Seamus is a founding Director of Tara Learning. Previously a Post Primary Teacher of Geography, History, English and ICT. Later worked in the private sector in the computer industry and on return to school has worked as Deputy Principal, and Principal at Dunshaughlin CC and after that as Education Officer for Meath VEC. Seamus has been a leader and innovator in the use of technology to support 21st Century Learning in Post Primary Education in Ireland over the past 20 years. He has pioneered many ICT and Learning initiatives. These have included many national firsts including universal availability of ICT equipment in classrooms, wireless broadband, student and staff email and learning management systems, student laptop programmes and new methods of delivering subject teaching between schools by video conferencing. In 2007 the Minister for Education appointed him to the National Strategy Group for ICT In Education which reported in 2008. the same year Dunshaughlin Community College was chosen as one of 12 Microsoft “Worldwide Innovative Schools”. As part of that programme Seamus had the opportunity to visit schools in many parts of the world and take part in international conferences with world renowned educational leaders. He has hosted two National Conferences on IT in Post Primary Education in Ireland, one in Dunshaughlin Community College and one in Ratoath College Co. Meath. Since 2012 Seamus has worked in post primary schools and Further Education centres across the country training and coaching teachers in ICT for digital learning.
His foresight in championing cloud computing services has brought great benefits today for those schools and ETBs where he has been working and he believes the single most important initiative that schools should invest in is the comprehensive training of their staff in the use of digital technologies. Investing in IT without staff training is potentially money wasted.
Appropriate use of technology can support many aspects of the school’s mission to deliver excellence in learning for all the schools learners. This can include areas as diverse as school administration systems to school student and staff welfare.
